Why Most Students Fail at NEET Physics
The most common failure mode: students read Physics concepts and think they understand them, but never practice enough numerical problems. Physics is a skill-based subject — understanding what a formula means is step one; applying it under time pressure to 15-20 questions in 20 minutes is a different skill entirely. Build both.
For every 1 hour of concept reading, do 2 hours of problem-solving. Minimum 15-20 numericals per chapter before moving on. No exceptions for "easy" chapters — easy chapters have easy marks that everyone else is taking.
Chapter Priorities for NEET 2027 Physics
Tier 1 — Highest Weightage (Cover First)
- Mechanics (Class 11, Ch 2-9): Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Work-Energy-Power, Rotational Motion — 20-28 questions every year. This is half your Physics score.
- Electrostatics + Current Electricity (Class 12, Ch 1-3): 12-16 questions. Gauss's Law, capacitors, Kirchhoff's Laws, meters.
- Optics (Class 12, Ch 9-10): Ray optics and wave optics — 8-10 questions. Lens formulas and interference patterns are frequent.
Tier 2 — High Value
- Modern Physics (Class 12, Ch 11-14): Photoelectric effect, atoms, nuclei, semiconductors — 10-14 questions. Mostly formula-based, easier to score.
- Magnetic Effects + Electromagnetic Induction (Class 12, Ch 4-6): 8-10 questions. Faraday's Laws, moving charges in magnetic fields.
- Thermodynamics + Kinetic Theory (Class 11, Ch 12-13): 6-8 questions. Conceptual + formula mix.
Tier 3 — Lower but Not Zero
- Waves + Oscillations (Class 11, Ch 14-15): 5-7 questions
- Gravitation + Properties of Matter (Class 11, Ch 8, 10-11): 4-6 questions
How to Practice Numericals Efficiently
Don't solve 50 easy problems from the same chapter. Solve 15-20 problems of varying difficulty, focusing especially on the ones you get wrong. For every wrong numerical, write out: what concept was tested, what did I apply incorrectly, and what's the correct approach. This error log is worth more than solving 100 more problems.
Time Management in Physics During the Exam
Physics questions take the most time per mark of any section. Allocate 40-45 minutes to Physics in the exam. Skip any numerical that takes more than 90 seconds — come back at the end. Focus on Modern Physics early (fastest marks per minute ratio). Leave the heavy Mechanics numericals for after you've secured the formula-based questions.
