Biology is where NEET is won or lost. At 360 marks, it's 50% of your total score. Students who score 340+ in Biology almost always crack NEET with a competitive score, even if Physics and Chemistry are average. Students who score below 280 in Biology rarely recover, regardless of how good their other subjects are. This guide tells you exactly how to approach Biology for NEET 2027.
The NCERT-First Rule (Non-Negotiable)
In NEET 2023 and 2024, more than 72% of Biology questions were either directly from NCERT text, NCERT diagrams, or NCERT examples. Reference books โ HC Verma, Trueman, MTG โ are secondary tools. Your primary source, your primary revision material, and your last-day reading must all be NCERT. Read it like a legal document: every word matters.
First pass: Read normally, understand concepts. Second pass: Highlight every bold term, every definition, every numerical figure mentioned. Third pass (revision): Cover the text and explain each section aloud from memory. If you can't, re-read.
Chapter Priority for NEET 2027
Tier 1 โ Master These First (Highest Weightage)
- Genetics (Class 12, Ch 5-7): Heredity, Molecular Basis of Inheritance, Evolution โ 15-20 questions expected
- Human Physiology (Class 11, Ch 17-22): All 6 chapters โ 12-15 questions
- Reproduction (Class 12, Ch 1-4): Sexual reproduction in plants + human reproduction โ 10-13 questions
- Cell Biology (Class 11, Ch 8-10): Cell structure, Biomolecules, Cell Cycle โ 8-11 questions
Tier 2 โ Cover Thoroughly
- Plant Physiology (Class 11, Ch 11-15): 8-10 questions
- Ecology (Class 12, Ch 13-16): 8-10 questions โ entirely NCERT-based
- Biotechnology (Class 12, Ch 11-12): 5-8 questions โ factual, memorisable
Tier 3 โ Revise, Don't Deep-Dive
- Structural Organisation (Class 11, Ch 4-7): 4-6 questions
- Diversity of Living Organisms (Class 11, Ch 1-4): 5-7 questions โ taxonomic facts
Diagrams โ Your Hidden Marks
Every NEET has 8-12 questions based on diagrams โ mitosis stages, flower parts, nephron structure, neuron anatomy, chloroplast cross-section. Draw each diagram from memory at least 3 times during your preparation. Then look at the NCERT diagram and note every label you missed. Those missed labels become exam questions.
How to Build Retention
Biology content is vast and forgetting is the primary enemy. Use a spaced repetition approach: revise each chapter 1 week after first study, then 3 weeks later, then 6 weeks later. At your 6-week revision, you should be able to answer 80% of NCERT questions from memory. If not, you haven't revised enough โ add more sessions.
Weak Chapters Holding You Back?
AIM720 mentors track each student's Biology chapter performance through mock analysis and create targeted revision plans. If Genetics or Human Physiology is your weak spot, your mentor builds a custom schedule around fixing it. This is what individual mentorship actually looks like.
